9-12 days. Architecture, Fine Arts, Shopping, Culinary Delights, and Leisure
Sample Itinerary: Day 1 & 2. Fly to Japan.
Day 3. Tokyo. Visit the Meiji Shinto Shrine and the Imperial Palace. Enjoy a cruise down the Sumida River.
Day 4. Tokyo. Visit Tokyo’s fish market where 25% of the world’s daily catch is processed. The rest of the day is free. Suggested activities: 1) Prada Tokyo Epicenter, designed by Herzon & de Meuron, 2003. It looks like “An alien body with unfamiliar skin and a strange way of holding itself.” At night, the thing glows like a surrealistic lantern. Alternatively, visit and shop at Dior Omotesando, designed by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa. It’s a flaunts cutting-edge architecture and Tokyo’s Rodeo Drive, such as Ginza district. It’s a glowing five-story glass box, within which white-acrylic panels appear to flow like the layers of tulle in a Galliano couture dress. The high-tech approach continues in the fitting rooms, where computer screens simultaneously display multiple images of the customer wearing prospective purchases.
Day 5. Kyoto. Travel by Bullet Train to Kyoto, one of the most culturally rich cities on the planet. Visit Nijo Castle and the Heian Shrine.
Day 6. Kyoto. Visit Kiyomizu Temple, high above the rooftops of Kyoto. We will walk along nearby meandering streets, look at its artisans’ studios and enjoy “the soul of Japan.”
Day 7. Osaka. Transfer to Osaka by Train. Visit Osaka Castle.
Day 8. Osaka. Visit the Museum of Oriental Ceramics, one of the world’s finest collections of Chinese and Korean ceramics. The rest of the day is free: Shopping, fine restaurant, and leisure.
Day 9 – 12. Extension to Shanghai or Beijing. Fly home on Day 9 or continue to Shanghai or Beijing for a three-day extension ($580).
