Germany in Depth
10-13 days. Architecture, Fine Arts, History, Cultural Activity, Shopping, Culinary Delights, and Leisure.
Sample Itinerary: Day 1. Fly to Germany.
Day 2. Berlin. Guided Sightseeing Tour: Visit Checkpoint Charlie Museum, Potsdamer Platz, Brandenburg Gate and Victory Column.
Day 3. Berlin. A full day of leisure: Suggested activities: 1) Visit Hamburger Bahanhof Modern Art Gallery, where you can see 2,000 works of late-20th-century art on loan from the Friedrich Christian Flick collection. 2) Visit Jewish Museum, designed by Daniel Libeskind, 1999. It looks like “A broken Star of David.” Why people love it? Because it’s a deeply haunting building of disorienting spaces. It conveys powerful messages in its architecture alone. Alternatively, shopping in trendy markets or antique stores.
Day 4. Dresden. Transfer to Dresden. Visit the Zwinger Museum, showing-off great baroque architecture. See the works of Rembrandt, Raphael and Titian.
Day 5. Munich. Guided Sightseeing Tour: Residenz (Wittelsbach dukes’ primary residence), Nymphenburg palace, Alte Pinakothek, Deutsches Museum, BMW headquarters, Olympic site of 1972, Marienplats & Hofbrauhaus.
Day 6. Munich. A day of leisure: Stroll around the Bavarian capital and enjoy some local food and restaurants.
Day 7. Dachau – Rothenburg. Visit Dachau, site of Germany’s first concentration camp. Transfer to Rothenburg, Germany’s medieval town.
Day 8. Heidelberg. Visit castle & vine barrel, University & Marktplatz.
Day 9. Heidelberg -- Frankfurt. Transfer to Frankfurt. The rest of the day is free: Suggested activities: Visit CocoonClub, where you can see Germany’s most glamorous social butterflies. The complex has three spaces: a dance floor, the Micro ClubRestaurant, and the all-white BedRestaurant. Alternatively, Shopping, fine restaurants, and leisure.
Day 10 – 13. Extension to Paris or London. Fly home on Day 10 or continue to Paris or London for a three-day extension ($580).
